Every year, hundreds of developers from all over Europe gather in Amsterdam to exchange ideas about current trends, best practices, and updates related to the popular JavaScript framework Vue.js. In front of the impressive Media Wall of the Theater Amsterdam, our webits experienced exciting presentations and brought back many valuable insights and impulses.

The Keynote: Performance is Key

The conference was opened by Vue creator Evan You, who drew a strong conclusion after 11 years since the release of his framework. The community is growing, as he illustrated with numbers: 500 updates and patches, two million users worldwide currently using Vue, and over six million downloads per week.

The second takeaway from the keynote was performance. Since the upgrade of the framework in autumn 2024, it has significantly improved. Among the features of the upcoming version, there will also be a technical improvement that would reduce Vue's memory usage and further increase performance.

In the end, Evan provided an insight into the projects of various communities working with Vue. Currently, the initiative to standardize JavaScript tools is being advanced, and a Vue-based prototype for Lynx, TikTok's open-source framework, is being developed. The goal is to be able to develop apps for Android and iOS using Vue in the future.

Efficient use of resources

A conference like Vue.js Amsterdam does not only include development tips - such as what makes good Vue components and how to write them. It also involves conveying best practices on topics like cost-effectiveness and efficiency. For example, Yauheni Prakopchyk from the Vue service provider Epicmax explained how older projects based on Vue 2 can be efficiently migrated to Vue 3. This depends on the project size and available resources, but above all on the actual need. For older projects that mainly need maintenance, a migration is only worthwhile when they are actually going to be expanded with new features.

Vue advantages without expert knowledge

The special framework Vueform with its associated Vueform Builder was introduced by its developer Adam Berecz for creating online forms. With this tool, it is possible to easily drag and drop forms into the desired shape and then import them into a Vue application. The highlight is that creating forms with the Form Builder is easily achievable even without programming knowledge, which should significantly simplify workflows in this area.

The same applies to Nuxt Studio, which was introduced by Nuxt Lead Developer Baptiste Leproux in his presentation. With this web tool, editors can create pages like in a traditional CMS and no longer have to work directly in Markdown files on a text level. Instead, they receive a preview that allows them to visually and live track their changes. These changes can then be implemented or undone as needed. Overall, Nuxt Studio speeds up editorial work and makes it much more intuitive.

User Experience for everyone

Ein Redner präsentiert eine Folie über Barrierefreiheit, die dauerhafte, temporäre und situationsbedingte Beeinträchtigungen in den Bereichen Tastsinn, Hören, Sehen und Sprechen veranschaulicht.

For input on user experience, our webits mainly watched two presentations. In one of them, the creator of the Nuxt framework, Sebastien Chopin, introduced the user interface library Nuxt UI, which contains a large number of user interface elements such as buttons, cards, dropdown menus, and much more. The rich variety of ready-made elements, which can also be customized to fit the corporate identity, ensures that the overall development time decreases and pages do not necessarily have to look the same just because they were created with Nuxt UI.

The second presentation dealt with the user experience of people with disabilities. Microsoft MVP Louëlla Creemers spoke about the requirements of the new European Accessibility Act for accessible web services and thus for the work of developers. Her live survey made it clear that even the majority of the attending professional audience underestimated the proportion of people with disabilities in the general population. Many people, according to Louëlla, are only temporarily restricted - for example, by a broken arm - and this is often forgotten when it comes to accessibility. The result of the survey admittedly surprised our team. We would have thought that there is a stronger awareness, as the topic has long been an important part of our work. A sign that accessibility should be on the agenda among digital agencies.

What makes a good developer

Of course, no developer conference should be without sessions on personal efficiency, as efficient processes are ultimately productive processes. The opinion of Filip Rakowski, speaker and organizer of numerous Vue conferences, is that when developing, people often work through tasks instead of truly solving problems. It is important to see the big picture at the end of a digital project and keep the success of one's own company in mind. This also applies to resources, as according to Filip, writing new code is just one of many ways to solve a customer's problem. Sometimes all that is needed is good documentation, training, or support in sales arguments. In the end, the most efficient solution is always the best.

More Highlights

As always, it is not possible to comprehensively summarize all talks at such a large conference in one recap. Nevertheless, we would like to mention a few:

  • The talks by Eduardo San Martin Morote from the Vue Core Team and Jakub Andrzejewski from the software service provider Monterail about optimized performance through Colada, an extension of the Vue tool Pinia, as well as ways to accelerate eCommerce processes. True to the motto: Performance is money!

  • Reza Ranibar's explanations on the benefits of Vue and Nuxt in dividing large apps and websites into microservices, using the example of his employer Funda, the largest Dutch real estate portal.

  • And finally, the talk by Shopware Engineering Lead Sebastian Seggewiß about customizations to Vue.js to make the eCommerce solution Shopware more extensible.

Each day of the conference began with the reminder that all attendees want to participate in an open-minded, international, inclusive, and respectful event, and that's exactly how we experienced Vue.js 2025. In the Theater Amsterdam in the city's harbor district, a communicative and networking-savvy community gathered, with speakers often joining during coffee breaks to exchange ideas together.

The audience was involved by the opportunity to send reactions to the screen live via smartphone during some presentations. Additionally, during the final Q&A session, attendees could ask questions about their favorite framework to Vue creator Evan You and some other well-known figures in the Vue scene.

After such an exciting conference, we have plenty of input in our luggage and say: Amsterdam, we would love to come back!
