Dresden Transport Company AG

DVB website shines with customer satisfaction

Around 160 million passengers are transported by the Dresden Transport Company every year with trams, buses, mountain railways, and ferries through the Saxon state capital. With the corporate website, we support passengers daily in finding the right connection at the right time and make the DVB a technology leader in the industry.

The project

Within one year, we, together with our client and our partners, the VOR advertising agency and DD-IT, realized a new website for the DVB, which continues to shine with customer satisfaction. An exciting project full of great challenges. The overarching goal and mission of the entire project team was and is to inform users on the new DVB website as effectively as possible and to create the highest user-friendliness on all digital touchpoints. The knowledge of the specific information needs of user groups - from commuters, tourists, families, older passengers to students - that we acquired in advance helped us to consistently align the content of the website accordingly.

DVB website becomes technology leader

The biggest technical challenge for our team was to develop a solution to bundle the previously separate information services, such as timetable information, departure schedules, disruption reports or route changes, intelligently link them together and deliver them at relevant points. Users should receive all important travel information already on the homepage - and also whenever they become relevant for the respective travel destination. Our Sitecore and .NET development team implemented the solution, took over the integration and linking of external information services and data into the new Sitecore project as well as the complete CMS setup. DVB customers, for example, who want to travel from Dresden Airport to the Semperoper, now receive all travel-relevant information for this route, such as connection information, departure times, any disruptions or timetable changes in real time on a clear interface. To better visualize stops, ticket machines, sights and travel routes, an extensive map service was integrated, which in the Dresden area also provides additional Google Streetview views. This makes the DVB website a technology leader in the industry and was awarded the Sitecore Experience Award in the category 'Best System Integration' in 2014.

Satisfied customers - international, mobile, and under peak loads

In addition to the seamlessly integrated and modernized information services, we also revised the topic of price information and tailored the offer more closely to the needs of users. The newly developed ticket finder now guides users step by step to the right ticket and ensures consistently positive user experiences. Following our recommendation, the site was not designed to be fully responsive, but initially optimized for tablets. For viewing on smartphones, there is a mobile version of the website, which in turn is tailored to the specific information needs of mobile users. In addition to the German version, the website is now also offered in English, Polish, and Czech languages, and thanks to the new scalable Sitecore infrastructure, it is able to manage peak loads, such as during major tourist events in the city or during flood situations.

That's what our customer says

webit! was able to convince all project members of DVB that we are not making a mistake by prominently placing unpleasant but valuable information for the user, such as fault reports, on the homepage. The user and their information needs always come first. This became very clear to us once again within the scope of this project and led to the sustainable success of the DVB website.
