Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH

Hidden Champion takes off with new website

Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) has shaped the aviation industry over seven decades. Since the 1990s, the company has specialized in the development and manufacturing of lightweight components (Composite Solutions) for Airbus aircraft, maintenance, and aircraft conversion, among other things. In recent years, EFW has established itself as a market leader for the new generation of cargo aircraft, with global customers and conversion partners worldwide. The new website is a visible sign of this.

About EFW

EFW's core business is Passenger-to-Freighter Conversions (P2F), which involves converting Airbus passenger aircraft into freighters that are used worldwide. In addition, composite products are developed and produced in the Dresden workshops to meet the high demands of the aviation industry, ranging from high-tech floor panels to complex modules or products such as Crew Rest Compartments, toilet modules, or luggage compartments. Maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of Airbus aircraft, as well as engineering services for certification and approval, are also offered.

The Dresden-based company employs more than 2000 employees and is on a growth trajectory.

New standard: highest user-friendliness

In addition to the obvious goal of bringing the website up to date technically and visually, we received some specific tasks from EFW for the relaunch. The previous website conveyed to the target groups an outdated field of activity and image of the aviation company, which works on the entire aircraft down to the smallest component and covers the new Airbus freighter range - from the A320P2F to the A321P2F to the A330P2F. In addition, the increased usage had to be taken into account. The aim was therefore to hand over a modern and user-friendly website at the end of the project, which conveys the company's image and portfolio at a glance. And this with a revised positioning and sharpened messages. The high proportion of applicants in the usage generated an additional desire at EFW for an appealing career section that also highlights the employer's benefits. In addition, there were goals for a responsive design to display the new website on mobile devices and a search engine-friendly implementation.

Innovative together

First of all, it was necessary to lay the foundation for the required communication. Questions regarding target audiences and corresponding messages of the future website, as well as the positioning of EFW in the market, were addressed in joint workshops with representatives from various areas of EFW. Subsequently, the concept and screen design of the individual page types and content elements moved from the initial draft to the final refinement. It was important to interpret the corporate design in a modern way and give it a dynamic look and feel. External graphic and video partners of EFW, as well as the design engineers of the company, significantly contributed to the animated Airbus aircraft data.

Dynamic Workflows

The project also included the collaboration between webit! and the EFW project management, as well as EFW's writers and graphic suppliers. Together, we found a way to bring together the texts and images of the partners. Our agile, sprint-driven approach was used, allowing for a high degree of completion of the editorial system to be available early on. This enabled different variations of text and image presentation to be displayed in order to ensure an optimal user experience with the appropriate variant.

Digital milestone for EFW

With the relaunch of the website, a milestone in terms of design and structural development was achieved for EFW and webit!. The corporate design was consistently rethought and adapted to new requirements. By using a lot of moving images, the prevailing theme of aviation was taken into account. Together with the page layout and micro-animations, the impression of lightness and movement is now created. The new website has a responsive design, which ensures optimal display on mobile devices. This also meets the desire to provide more accessibility for applicants, who can get a better idea of their dream job at the Dresden traditional aviation company in the future through the appealing career section. We are very proud of the project's result, made possible by the combined expertise and commitment of EFW, webit!, and an external PR agency. Through close and enriching teamwork, a website was created that is visually and technically impressive and conveys EFW's sharpened position as a leading, internationally active aviation company.
