Saxon information

The first nationwide digital timetable information for Saxony.

The Upper Elbe Transport Association (VVO) was founded more than 30 years ago and coordinates the services of a total of 14 regional public transport companies. At the initiative of the VVO, in cooperation with the other Saxon transport associations, the idea of a statewide digital connection information service was created to provide travelers with comprehensive and user-friendly timetable information. Together with webit!, the Saxony Information Service was created as a cross-regional digital service, which simplifies travel planning to the numerous Saxon tourist destinations and cultural sites, ensuring that they can suggest the fastest route to their guests.

The path to a common system

Although the Saxon transport associations were already able to access timetable information from other associations in the Free State, current data on construction sites or delays were not included. This meant that travelers had to use the services of several associations in order to get a clear picture of their travel route. In order to reduce this effort and enable a more secure planning, the individual associations expressed the desire for a statewide platform with all necessary information.

In addition, tourism and cultural destinations should be able to integrate this platform into their websites via a responsive widget. This way, guests should receive information about the travel route directly on the page of their desired destination.

Modern web technologies for a flexible, scalable solution

For the website sachsenauskunft.de, Storyblok is used as a Headless Content Management System. The advantage of the Headless approach is that content only needs to be entered into the system once and can be delivered simultaneously on different channels with different visual designs through interfaces. The user interface of the website was implemented using the JavaScript framework Next.js. This ensures the desired display and fast page loading. For the widgets, the JavaScript-based framework Vue.js was used, which is particularly suitable for developing interactive and responsive elements. The visualization of connections and stop information is done through Yourney, our specially developed public transport solution, which provides the existing information data in a modern, accessible, and intuitively operable application.

Saxony's public transport data at a click

The Sachsenauskunft provides for the first time a unified, cross-network timetable information service for public transportation in Saxony. By centrally bundling connection and real-time data, travel planning is significantly facilitated for users. At the same time, the technical solution enables tourist and cultural institutions to provide their guests with suitable connection information directly on their websites. As part of the project, a digital service was created through the collaboration of the Saxon transport associations and the targeted use of modern web technologies, which improves access to public transport and supports the visibility of regional offers.
