What is Storyblok? Headless CMS explained with benefits
Your benefits with Storyblok
Storyblok is a Content Management System (CMS) that has established a solid position in the industry due to its intuitive user interface and ample space for individual customization. With its interfaces for third-party applications (API), Storyblok was specifically designed to work with any tech stack, thus creating an efficient overall solution. The headless approach provides additional flexibility when outputting content across multiple channels simultaneously. Storyblok is used in more than 130 countries and successfully employed by companies such as adidas, Telekom, Renault, and Netflix.
Why Storyblok?
Headless content management systems such as Storyblok differ from their traditional counterparts in that they focus on managing editorial content in the backend and making it available for use via interfaces. The generation of the frontend is therefore not part of a headless CMS, which is why they are used in particular when the same content is to be delivered on multiple channels (website, app, etc.) but with different layouts or contexts. However, this also has practical disadvantages. The editorial maintenance of the content is quite abstract because editors cannot see what the content will ultimately look like. A headless content management system therefore does not have a WYSIWYG mode. The Storyblok visual editor takes a different approach. Here, the respective frontend is loaded into the editor and is therefore visible while working in the backend. This WYSIWYG-like view makes the visual editor an innovative unique selling point of Storyblok and makes content editing much easier. The additional workflow and comment functions integrated into the editor optimize team collaboration and ensure that content can go live faster.

Custom extensions (apps, plugins, elements) can be created.
Content output that can be segmented by target groups.

Full control down to the smallest detail
Storyblok offers full control over your own content. Individual components can be customized according to your own preferences and are reusable thanks to a modular content structure. It is possible to define "global" components that provide a consistent user experience and brand message across all channels. Additionally, Storyblok's component level offers high flexibility down to the smallest elements, allowing for the additional consideration of technical SEO standards.

More flexibility: API first
In its structure, Storyblok follows an API-first approach, meaning it is designed from the perspective of interfaces. For this reason, the CMS is very flexible and can work with various third-party systems - such as for content localization or personalization. This allows, for example, the implementation of multi-brand strategies where content needs to be delivered simultaneously on multiple websites. If these need to be optimized through A/B testing, Storyblok provides the necessary testing function out of the box. The API-first approach also allows for the quick creation of reusable application functions that can be used across multiple devices and channels.
