TYPO3 Developer Days 2025

Our highlights of the
TYPO3 Developer Days 2025
The TYPO3 Developer Days are more than just a professional conference - You are the meeting point where the TYPO3 community develops ideas, shares knowledge, and collectively initiates new things.Since its inception, they have been bringing developers and open-source enthusiasts from all over the world together to exchange ideas, tackle challenges, and advance the TYPO3 project together. From August 7th to 9th, the community gathered in Karlsruhe. Yasmin and Flo were there representing us, and they not only gained valuable insights but also had many inspiring encounters.
This year, the event was held under the motto "The Future Starts Now" - and it couldn't have been more fitting: With the launch of TYPO3 v14, a new chapter begins. The upcoming version (Release April 2026) introduces a modernized core architecture with features such as the Schema API and the Record API, introduces the Dashboard Settings API for customizable widgets, gives the backend a fresh look & feel, and optimizes Content Blocks for even more flexible content.
Diversity of topics with clear focus areas
This year's program offered a diverse mix, which was mainly characterized by two focal points: Innovations in TYPO3 v13 and v14 and - what a surprise - Artificial Intelligence - from practical examples to critical discussions about risks and limitations.
This was complemented by topics such as security, performance, modern development workflows, UX optimizations, and current frontend trends.
The session "DDoS Protection with TYPO3" focused on the increasing number and complexity of attacks at the network, protocol, and application levels - and on how TYPO3 installations can be secured with the right protection mechanisms. DDoS attacks are also among the growing challenges for many of our customers. Therefore, we rely on powerful protection solutions together with our partner Myra Security, which can be individually tailored to customer needs and help prevent outages and data loss. If you want to know how we can reliably secure your systems, feel free to contact us.

AI in Focus - Opportunities, Risks, Responsibility
Artificial intelligence was a central theme in many sessions - focusing on opportunities, limitations, and how our work routine will change as a result. Particularly interesting was the perspective on AI and search: from SEO strategies for SearchGPT to changes in user behavior and AI-supported internal search. It became clear that the entire interaction of users with websites could change: when AI-generated answers come directly from structured, machine-readable data, many queries no longer require visiting the website itself - the answer appears directly in ChatGPT or similar systems. We also discussed the expected changes in user search behavior.
UX & TYPO3 Updates - a look at v14
There was also plenty of input in the area of UX—and two topics in particular that will noticeably improve the everyday work of editors. The new dashboard in TYPO3 v14 makes the backend significantly more flexible: thanks to the new Settings API, widgets can be individually configured and adapted to your own workflows. Whether customized KPIs, editorial content, or project-specific evaluations—the dashboard becomes a central, customizable workspace that provides editors with exactly the information they need. In addition, the Settings API puts the focus on the central management of website settings. Instead of scattered configurations, parameters can be clearly structured in the backend, controlled on a role-based basis, and directly linked to components such as the dashboard. This will make it easier, more consistent, and more efficient for different user groups—from editors to developers—to make settings in the future. The presentation “Editor First” also highlighted the significant potential of a backend configuration that is consistently geared towards editors. Less complexity, clearer structures, and a simplified interface ensure that content can be created more quickly, errors are avoided, and training costs are reduced. Another highlight was the talk “Unleash Your Superpower: Exploring New TYPO3 Features.” It showed how TYPO3 versions 13 and 14 are becoming even more intuitive and efficient. This includes a revised page tree that displays the current work status with labels and status information, as well as an enhanced drag-and-drop function that allows content to be moved between pages. The backend search has been optimized and now allows, among other things, searching for URL paths (slugs) – even directly in the page tree. This is complemented by features such as dark mode for the backend and rich text editor, as well as new hotkeys that significantly speed up work in the backend.
Insights into the TYPO3 Core
A major benefit of the Developer Days was the transparency regarding the TYPO3 Core. In presentations and discussions, it became clear how features are developed, what considerations are behind them, and how much room there is for ideas and improvements. Particularly interesting was the insight into the DataHandler, the core of TYPO3 with around 10,000 lines of code. Here it was shown how complex backend data operations take place - and why careful refactoring instead of a complete rebuild ensures long-term stability. The event was also practical: "Beyond the Form: File Uploads the Extbase Way" demonstrated proven methods to implement file uploads in Extbase forms - from integration to validation - flawlessly and future-proof. This aspect is crucial for reliable functionality in many projects. Our impression: We can actively contribute - and there are still many exciting opportunities to make TYPO3 future-proof.
Experience community live.

In addition to the sessions, the conference was a place for reunions and getting to know each other. A highlight for us was the "Surfcamp Reunion Lunch" - a meeting with many familiar faces from the TYPO3 Surfcamp in Fuerteventura, where we ate, laughed, and talked about the latest developments in the TYPO3 world.
The community spirit was also noticeable during the Coding Night: Experienced developers, beginners, and many other community members worked together in a relaxed atmosphere, providing assistance and sharing their knowledge. It is this openness that makes TYPO3 more than just a CMS - it is a community project.
Conclusion

The TYPO3 Developer Days 2025 were a successful mix of technical input, community experiences, and inspiration.
Especially in the field of AI, a lot will happen in the coming years - and we are well connected to incorporate these developments into projects at an early stage. At the same time, it is evident that TYPO3 is not just a technology, but a vibrant community that welcomes ideas, shares knowledge, and collaboratively shapes the future of the CMS.
